Interaction of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor with the Effects of Chronic Methamphetamine on Prepulse Inhibition in Mice Is Independent of Dopamine D3 Receptors

The aim of the present study was to gain a better understanding role brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and dopamine D3 receptors in effects chronic methamphetamine (METH) on prepulse inhibition (PPI), an endophenotype psychosis. We compared effect three-week adolescent METH treatment protocol regulation PPI wildtype mice, BDNF heterozygous mice (HET), receptor knockout (D3KO), double-mutant (DM) with both heterozygosity knockout. Chronic induced disruption male haploinsufficiency (HET DM), independent Specifically, these showed reduced baseline PPI, as well attenuated by acute agonist, apomorphine (APO), or glutamate NMDA antagonist, MK-801. In contrast, there were no female mice. pretreatment expected locomotor hyperactivity sensitisation, where HET DM also endogenous sensitisation. Differential sex-specific genotype observed transporter gene expression striatum frontal cortex. Taken together, results show significant involvement long-term particularly but appear receptors. this psychosis endophenotypes therefore remains unclear.
